IN THE SADDLE: Dan Jones, Brand Manager, Windwave
Jul 17
This month BikeBiz Takes a look at Dan Jones a Brand Manager from Windwave...
What bikes do you own?
Currently I have a Kona Dawg Supreme, which I use as a bit of a mule for product testing. On the road I use a Colnago Extreme Power, a machine that never ceases to amaze me. I am also a bit of a retro fan and have an old World Cup Proflex and US made Zaskar.
Where’s your favourite place to ride?
Fortunately, with my job, I have got to ride in some fantastic places but nothing beats the stunning scenery and the sense of awe you get from riding in the Alps.
What’s your business background?
I have been at Windwave for over ten years and in the cycle industry for over 15. I started as a mechanic and progressed to managing workshops, departments, sales. Then on to single brands to the position I am in now where I brand manage all of Windwave‘s products and head up the marketing department. I must give thanks to our MD Peter Nisbet who has pushed me all the way.
Have you always been in the cycle industry?
No, I did an apprenticeship in welding and fabrication making hospital equipment. I only got to the cycle trade after a bad motorcycle crash where I crushed my ankle and I took to cycling for physiotherapy reasons.
What’s the biggest rush achievable on a bike?
Being able to pull of a section of fast technical single track quicker than your mates.
In your opinion, what’s the next big thing in cycling?
I see the drive train as the area with the biggest potential, especially for the off-road market.
