British Retail Consortium figures show worst performance for three years

According to a study by the British Retail Consortium, retail sales fell for a second consecutive month in April. The figures, which highlight a three year low in sales, depict a 1.5 per cent dip in sales compared with the same time last year.

The dip follows on from a 1.6 per cent decline in March, which showed the retail sector had sunk to lows not seen since 2005.

The only sectors to record increasing sales were food, homewares and toiletries.

Hi there, to read this news very worrying for me. I am about to launch an online bike shop! On a slightly different note though, please can someone tell me what the process is with regards to BS? My supplier is BS approved and the bikes have a sticker, is that all that is needed? Thanks,

Forget BS, it's BS, go zen with CEN.

Well indeed! That is all very well, but that doesn't answer my question! Be it BS or CEN next year, does the manufatcurer simply need to comply and the certified BS/CEN, or do i need to have bikes tested personally? Surely the latter is impossible due to the quantities of difference shipments! Thanks,

Am I missing something here? What's happening in the High Street bike shops? Are sales up or down or going nowhere? Is somebody prepared to break ranks and tell everyone else they are down 10% YTD on last year on bike sales or whatever? Come on guys and girls it's time to play 'you show me your and I'll show you mine'. Our economy (in OZ) is going too fast and they are slowing it down by raising interest rates to combat inflation and even I know that sales here are flattening - discretionary spending is slowing. But the UK is in a different phase so let's talk about it. I see OZ has more in common with the UK European scene than with the US which must be hurting out there in the Malls. So let's hear of some interaction.
